We break down the factors that influence pricing and provide estimates to help you plan your project effectively.

How Much Does It Cost to Paint Kitchen Cabinets?

Thinking about giving your kitchen a facelift? Painting your kitchen cabinets can be one of the most cost-effective ways to transform your space without undergoing a complete renovation. Whether you want a fresh, modern look or something more traditional, painting your cabinets can instantly elevate your kitchen's design.

So, What’s the Price Tag?

At Spring Texas Painters, we believe in transparency when it comes to pricing. The cost of painting your kitchen cabinets depends on several factors, such as the size of your kitchen, the type of cabinets, and the finish you’re looking for. Generally, you can expect to spend between $3,000 and $6,000 to paint an average-sized kitchen. That said, every home is unique, so we offer personalized quotes tailored to your specific needs.

Painting Cabinet Cost Pro Tip
An easy way to determine the rough cost for your kitchen cabinet painting project is to use the cost per cabinet face method. This avoids the need to take any measurements and calculate the square footage.

First, you need to count the number of cabinet surfaces in your kitchen. A cabinet surface is simply a drawer face or

cabinet door. Second, you need to add anything else you want painted beyond the doors/drawers and the cabinets they are attached to. These other items could be a wine rack, a large cabinet box with double ovens, an over-the-stove vent hood, and other similar kitchen amenities.

The average cost of painting kitchen cabinets is $100 per drawer face and $175 per cabinet door. This usually averages out to a cost of $5,000 for a medium-sized kitchen. You should also add on 10% if you have a detailed cabinet design, such as glass in the cabinet doors.

One more thing. These numbers are adjusted to account for the cost of painting the cabinet boxes, so don’t worry about calculating anything extra for those. But, if you have a wine rack or island that needs to be refinished, add $250 or $500, respectively, for a good-enough estimate. This cost is in addition to any cabinets/drawers on the island.

Factors That Affect the Cost

1. Kitchen Size
The number of cabinets directly impacts the cost. A smaller kitchen with fewer cabinets will be more budget-friendly, while larger kitchens with more cabinetry will naturally be on the higher end.

2. Cabinet Type
The material and style of your cabinets also play a role. Wood cabinets, for instance, are easier to paint and refinish than laminate or veneer, which might require extra prep work.

3. Paint Type and Finish
The type of paint and finish you choose can make a big difference. High-quality paints, like those from Sherwin-Williams, are an investment that pays off with longer-lasting results. Do you want a matte finish or a high-gloss sheen? We’ve got you covered, but premium finishes may add to the cost.

4. Prep Work
Cabinets that need sanding, priming, or additional repairs before painting will increase the price. At Spring Texas Painters, we take prep work seriously because it ensures your cabinets not only look amazing but also stand the test of time.

5. Hardware Replacement
If you’re also replacing the knobs and pulls, or adding soft-close hinges, we can incorporate that into the project for you, but it will affect the final cost.

DIY vs. Professional Painting: Is It Worth the Investment?

Many homeowners wonder whether they should take the DIY route or hire professionals. While doing it yourself might seem like a money-saving option, it’s important to consider the time, effort, and potential pitfalls involved. Cabinet painting is a meticulous process that requires experience to get right. At Spring Texas Painters, we ensure a smooth, professional finish with every project, saving you the hassle and potential mistakes of a DIY job.
